systems engineer
TEKsystems is currently searching for a Windows System Engineer for downtown Seattle. This position is 6 months to hire and after going full time has excellent benefits including double matching on 401K.
The role:
Support and enhance client/server Technology Solutions based on platforms from Microsoft, f5 Networks, HP, VMWare, and others.
Ensure high availability of 24X7 production systems. Participate in on-call rotation.
Support the deployment of web applications from development to production deployment. Maintain all down-level environments, including Dev, Test, QA and Project.
Provide on-site consulting services to the enterprise, including support for short- and long-term projects.
Design server management solutions, including monitoring and alerting of server and system issues. Analyze and resolve complex client/server issues.
Primary Job Functions:
Act as part of a team of engineers in support of the computer and network systems.
Support Microsoft Server technology and Infrastructure applications
Participate in project teams consisting of inter- or intra-departmental employees in accomplishing daily tasks & long-term projects.
Administer Microsoft Windows Server-based client/server technology solutions.
General Firewall familiarity and security principles.
Actively seek out opportunities to improve existing practices, procedures, and technology implementations.
Employ knowledge of OS-level and Hardware-level architecture to derive solutions and remediation’s for observed issues.
Ensure 24X7 uptime for production systems.
Represent IT and engage IT partners and vendors to create and implement solutions to business problems.
Required Qualifications:
5+ years experience in a technical support position in a client/server environment
4+ years experience with Windows 2000 & 2003 Server
4 + years experience with Exchange Server, SMTP, and Sendmail products
4+ years experience with Active Directory, GPO Adminisitration and Microsoft DNS
Hands-on experience supporting Citrix server farms and Citrix application environments
Hands-on experience managing web sites running on Microsoft IIS
On-Call support of production systems in a 24X7 eCommerce environment
Familiarity with Server Load Balancing technologies such as f5 BigIP
Experience with remote deployment and monitoring technologies
Server Hardware knowledge, including SANs and Blade server technologies
Knowledge of network protocols such as TCP/IP
Ability to work independently in all phases of systems analysis activities
Experience with server virtualization and consolidation technologies
Exceptional verbal and written communications skills
Desired Qualifications:
Experience in performance testing of distributed applications
Hands-on experience with Systems Monitoring applications like HP Openview, HP Insight Manager, IBM DirectorMicrosoft Operations Manager (MOM)
Relational Database Management Systems, such as MS SQL Server experience
Working knowledge of non-Microsoft operating systems, such as Unix/Linux
Experience with security organizations to conduct penetration testing and vulnerability scanning
Scripting skills (VBScript, Perl, etc)
Experience with DNS
Experience with Disaster Recovery planning and Security Audit compliance
