Java Developer
TEKsystems has partnered with a large government integrator to identify a Java Developer. This position is located in Reston,VA and is a 9 month contract to hire opportunity.
Duties: Shall participate in the full software development life-cycle to design, develop, and integrate an enterprise-wide application. Shall work as part of a team that will prepare software specifications and develop application components (e.g., program code) and interfaces, as part of an overall system implementation. Shall support development of functional specifications. Shall be responsible for the integration of certain application components and interfaces to facilitate the sharing of data and information. This shall include implementation of flexible query and report generation capability. Shall support overall project software quality control processes. Shall support task leads in performing unit testing and debugging of programs; and documentation of work.
Shall be responsible for performing data management activities required to update and maintain several databases both in MS Access and Informix (soon to be migrated to DB2). Shall execute system procedures required for processing of data files provided by both internal client systems and external government (i.e., FTP) data sources on a monthly basis. Shall perform documented steps to import and upload data files. Shall also ensure data integrity and completeness. Shall coordinate with Task Leads and Project Manager to ensure satisfactory completion of monthly import process. Shall also generate standardized reports for internal end-users on a monthly (or as required) basis.
Shall also work with the Task Leads to review the current procedures associated with the monthly data import process and determine if potential improvements can be made. Such improvements may include recommended changes to current procedures, database modifications, and system enhancements.
Minimum Requirements: A BS/BA with major in computer science or equivalent with at least 4 years combined programming and system development experience. Experience shall include the following:
(1) At least 3 years programming and testing in support of decision support, management information, and/or enterprise database systems applications.
(2) At least 1+ years experience with Java Development, including J2EE, Java Server Pages, Servlets, HTML, AJAX and JavaScript.
(3) One or more years experience with database development using MS Access,
(4) One or more years experience with database development (e.g., Informix, DB2).
Must be skilled and experienced in the system technologies using Java, XML, SQL, and DBMS development experience. Experience using the Eclipse applications development environment is desirable. Experience in application portal development is a plus.
