UNIX/Windows Server Data Center Operator
Our client is seeking a UNIX/Windows Server Data Center Operator.
Shift: 2nd shift (2:45 pm to 1:15 am, 4 days a week)
DESCRIPTION: Provides support in a 24x7x365 days/year role that monitors, configures, and supports critical network elements using real time alarming of network faults, analysis, configuration, notification, trending of faults and escalation to ensure company compliance with notification requirements and customer service level agreements (SLA).
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES -Provide 1st level support for all customer issues with server based applications. -Escalation hardware issues/failures to the appropriate system administrator with “on-call” status. -Provide knowledgeable assistance and coordination with MTDC engineers, application owners, vendors and other outside support -Answers incoming calls and monitors various emails and acts according to procedures and processes. -Initiates, updates, tracks and closes trouble tickets; creates and communicates scheduled maintenance alerts and service interruption notifications. -Maintain daily logs identifying activities, task, alerts and problems in the data center as well as incident reports on any defined outages when they occur. -Rack, cable, image and assist in configuring servers for new projects. -Provide management with Incident reports in the event of network or application outages resulting in downtime of mission critical applications.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: -2-4 years experience with Windows Server -2-4 years experience with UNIX Server -2 – 4 years experience or 2 years equivalent experience with a 2 year college coursework (degree preferred) -Defined experience in troubleshooting issues in a UNIX/Windows OS based server environment -Experience with monitoring tools -Good problem solving skills and techniques -Ability to respond quickly and systematically to issues as they arise. -Excellent communication skills both written and verbal a must ***Experience following formal process/procedures in a data center environment***
DESIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS: -Unix network and server experience -NetIQ, Veritas NetBackup -HP (Peregrine) ticketing system knowledge -Willingness to work a flexible schedule to accommodate work related changes
